2011 San Francisco 49ers Season Entertainment

This year e2k is proud to celebrate its 40th year producing entertainment for the San Francisco 49ers.

Highlights so far have included a Football Fiesta with over 150 mariachis, folklorico dancers and charros; a Youth Football Night; a dramatic Opening Day celebration of the 10th Anniversary of September 11th, featuring a giant flag covering the entire field, national anthem by multi-platinum recording artist Brian McKnight, and a halftime concert by Plain White T’s; an 80’s Throwback Day with halftime performance by Wonderbread 5; and the 49ers Salute the Fleet celebration featuring the finest bands and pageantry our Armed Forces have to offer.

The first half of the season also saw the debut of two new Gold Rush uniforms, a new Sourdough Sam costume, the release of the all-new Gold Rush cheerleader calendar, and a Junior Gold Rush program with over 200 aspiring young cheerleaders. We are also pleased to welcome back the very talented D.C. Abramson as Sourdough Sam. He is joined by a new assistant Mike Marqua. And of course, starting off the season 4-1 is the real accomplishment!

Looking ahead to the second half of the season, highlights include our Breast Cancer Awareness game; a tribute to the 70th Anniversary of the Tuckeegee Airmen, including a partnership with Lucas films that will bring actors from their new movie and the original airmen to the game; a full stadium card stunt to honor Veteran’s Day; Hall of Fame Day featuring the induction of R.C. Owens and Roger Craig into the Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. 49ers Hall of Fame; Fan Appreciation Day; and Monday Night Football where the 49ers will salute our local stars of American Idol with a halftime concert starring Thia Megia, James Durbin and Stefano Langione.

Childrens Health Council Benefit Concert with Bruno Mars

e2k produced a benefit concert for the Children’s Health Council, featuring pop star, Bruno Mars, and the indie folk band, Blind Pilot.

The e2k team, led by Mike Brady and Erin Olmstead, transformed the polo field at the Atherton Circus Club into an intimate concert venue with bleacher seating, a special Under 21 Zone and VIP seating in front of the stage. The beautiful summer evening provided the ideal setting for a special show.

The show was preceded by an elegant VIP reception, featuring a variety of food stations and bars. Erin and David Gill worked with the CHC committee to decorate the area with a festive California picnic theme.

The on-site team included, director, Michael Olmstead, David Sanchez overseeing the Under 21 Fan Zone, Jasmine Harris coordinating volunteers, Meghan Harris overseeing the event look, Shannon Ellis managing talent, and Kelly Norris managing the entrance area and will call.

Children’s HealthCouncil (CHC) takes children and families from alone and lost to hopeful and grateful. The children we help struggle with autism, ADHD, depression, anxiety, learning disabilities, developmental delays and other challenges that put their well-being and our community’s health at risk. E2k was pleased to have the opportunity help bring their annual fund raising event too life.

India Meets Iberia - A Magical Night at Shalimar

E2k produced the wedding engagement party for at Shalimar (the name given to the home of Romesh Wadhwani) on Saturday, July 2^nd. Building on the cultural heritage of the bride and groom, the event created a fusion of Indian and Spanish culture.

The spectacular menu, created by Romesh with Amber India chef, Vital Shetty, featured twenty five different fusion delicacies. The signature drink, called the Shalimar Salud, provided the perfect summer combination of champagne, mango rum, ginger liquor, cognac with mango puree and Valencia orange juice. Catering production, service staff and table design were provided by Meme Pederson and the team at Taste Catering. All of the waiters were dressed in Indian or Spanish costumes.

As guests entered the party through the “Secret Garden,” they were greeted by models in Spanish and Indian attire, flamenco guitarists playing on top of a flowing fountain, and a table/tambura duo playing for a Spanish senorita. Gypsy Dancers then directed them to the reception around the pool.

For the reception entertainment, e2k created two production numbers with fusion choreography by Erin Olmstead. These numbers were interspersed with Paso Doble and a Flamenco duets. Music for the opening portion of the event was provided by the Santa Barbara-based quartet, Luna Gitana.

The cultural juxtaposition shifted at dinner with Indian music provided by the the Sangati Center from San Francisco. As the desserts went down, the energy increased with two hours of non-stop dance music by Los Angeles-based, Impuse. The fourteen-member group presented a concert-like tour of genres spanning six decades. The dance floor, made of plexiglass covering over the pool, was jammed with party-goers in a colorful assortment of formal Indian and Spanish attire.

The e2k project manager was Laura DeGood with production support provided by David Gill, Trisha Ricci, Mike Brady and Michael Olmstead. The beautiful event program was created by e2k Art Director, Meghan Harris. The magical event lighting was designed by Mickey Fimbres from Impact Lighting, and sound for two stages at opposite ends of the pool was provided by Sound on Stage.

The 2011 Fiscal Summit: Solutions for America’s Future - Sponsored by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation

Michael Olmstead recently directed the 2011 Fiscal Summit, sponsored by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation in Washington D.C. The one-day conference was focused on the U.S. debt that has now reached astronomical levels and threatens the economic security of our nation.

The innovative event featured a high-profile line-up of speakers including President Bill Clinton, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), President Obama’s Director of Economic Policy, Gene Sperling; Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels interviewed by Washington Post Columnist, George Will; and Senators Chambliss (R-GA), Crapo (R-ID), Durbin (D-IL) and Warner (D-VA) interviewed by PBS NewsHour Senior Correspondent, Judy Woodruff.

To provide the framework for the discussion, the Peterson Foundation commissioned six think tanks, the American Enterprise Institute, the BiPartisan Policy Center, the Center for American Progress, the Economic Policy Institute, the Heritage Foundation and the Roosevelt Campus Network to prepare reports outlining their recommendations for reducing the debt. These presentations were displayed on three large screens with the organizational leaders, animated graphs and bullet point highlights.

Reflecting the urgency of the event subject, the event attracted significant media attention with live coverage by C-Span and news representation by every major news outlet.

On May 14th, 2011, TEDx hosted its second conference featuring a new roster of impressive and engaging speakers who explored the emerging concept of Living by Numbers for a curated audience of Silicon Valley thought leaders. Curator, Ron Gutman invited e2k to assist with the on-site production, with Michael Olmstead producing. The conference was one of the most successful TEDx events ever - not only for the over 800 people who gathered for the event at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, but also for over 350,000 people from over 50 countries around the world who tuned in online to watch the livestream on Justin.tv.

TEDx Silicon Valley gathers some of the world's leading thinkers, makers, and doers to discuss social innovation. Located on Stanford's campus and hosted in partnership with the Center for Social Innovation , a center at the Stanford's Graduate School of Business educating leaders to solve the world's global problems, it is a day of stimulating presentations, discussions, entertainment, and art that sparks new ideas and opportunities for all involved.

This nationally recognized annual conference is PBWC's main forum for women leaders to mentor and role model, foster upward mobility and gain instant access to a large network of other professionals. E2k was responsible for all aspects of the event, from exhibitor sales and attendee registration to graphic design and marketing; from catering and décor, to venue design and build-out; and from speaker booking and travel coordination to fully integrated show production. E2k also produced an attendee network, creating an online community where over 3,000 conference attendees could connect before, during and after the event.

49ers Draft Day

On April 28^th, e2k assisted the 49ers in bringing the NFL Draft to over 3,000 fans and season ticket holders. The live event, held at the Santa Clara Convention Center, was a watch party of the first round of the NFL Draft, hosted by Ted Robinson and Eric Davis. It featured appearances by 49ers Alumni; performances by the 49ers Gold Rush, Sourdough Sam; and Niner Noise; sponsor booths; food; prizes; a look inside the 49ers war room; and an exclusive appearance by Head Coach Jim Harbough, just after the 49ers first round selection.

E2k team members Erin Olmstead, Jasmine Hall, David Sanchez and Lorie Murphy worked closely with the 49ers Marketing Department to produce the broadcast and stage show portion of the event. U.S.-Islamic World Forum Washington D.C.

E2k was recently involved in the production of the U.S.- Islamic World Forum in Washington D.C.

Sponsored by the Brookings Institution and the government of Qatar, the annual event is designed to bring together leaders in the realms of politics, business, media, academia, and civil society from across the Islamic world (including Muslim communities in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East) and the United States. The Forum seeks to serve as both a convening body and catalyst for positive action. Therefore, its focus is not on dialogue just for dialogue’s sake, but on developing actionable agendas for government, civil society, and the private sector.

The Tuesday evening gala at the Mellon Auditorium featured a keynote address by U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton. Joining discussions with high-profile Middle Eastern leaders were Senators John Kerry and John McCain, former Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, and former National Security Advisor, Zbigniew Brzezinski. Wall Street Journal: Women in the Economy - An Executive Task Force

E2k President, Michael Olmstead and Senior Producer, Erin Olmstead worked with Chris Wayne and Associates to direct the first Wall Street Journal women’s conference at the Four Seasons Hotel in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The three day event brought together over 120 women leaders from various professions to generate action plans for increasing the opportunities for women in business, government and other professional areas. The discussions were grounded in a new report produced for the Wall Street Journal by McKinsey & Company entitled, “Unlocking the Full Potential of Women in the U.S. Economy.”

The event opened with a gala dinner conversation with former Supreme Court Justice, Sandra Day O’Connor; the CEO of Morgan Stanley, China, Wei Sun Christianson; and the President of the World Bank, Robert Zoellick.

The event utilized the Priortizer facilitation software, developed by long-time e2k partner, Futureview, Inc. Each breakout group focusing on different business areas, e.g. Law, Media, Technology, Government, Healthcare, and Finance, used Prioritizer to generate four key recommendations related to the advancement of women in their sector. These were then shared with the full conference and further consolidated and prioritized in order to generate the five most important areas that will be published in the Wall Street Journal. Pro Bowl 2011 Post Season Celebration and Kick-off to Super Bowl XLV

The e2k recently completed production of the event production and game entertainment for the 2011 Pro Bowl in Hawaii. Celebrating our 20^th Pro Bowl production, this year’s events and entertainment was unquestionably the most ambitious and the most successful in history. E2k was responsible for the production of the:

Pro Bowl 'Ohana Day Celebration at Aloha Stadium—a three hour fanfest, featuring practices by both NFL All-Star teams, non-stop entertainment, interactive games, and interviews. E2k also presented a special Kid’s Zone for over 2,500 children from military families with educational messages on the importance of exercise and healthy lifestyles. Shannon Ellis was the event manager.

The Pro Bowl All-Star Block Party Waikiki—this signature event took over the entire length of Waikiki with eight stages, over 25 bands, appearances by Hall of Fame players, the Pro Bowl Cheerleaders and Mascots, and over 150 food and craft vendors. The Block Party team was led by e2k Executive Vice President, Lorie Murphy. Danny Huebsch served as Technical Director, and e2k partner, Chris Wayne, kept the All Star Sports Show stage moving with players, cheerleaders, local celebrities and NFL videos.

The Official NFL Tailgate Party, NFL Island Style—situated across from Aloha Stadium and overlooking Pearl Harbor, this year’s party featured five thematic areas highlighting different aspects of Hawaiian culture and life. From Old Hawaii to the Surfer Beach Party, the event provided a variety of interactive entertainment and delectable cuisine provided by Gordon Biersch restaurant. The tailgate party team included Megan Knight, David Gil, Stefanie Liang, and Stephanie Condello.

Touchdown Club—a new fan event situated outside of the stadium, the Touchdown Club featured two stages, cheerleader autographs, player appearances, and food stations representing different NFL cities. Over 2,000 fans enjoyed the free party.

Pro Bowl Cheerleaders—e2k, once again, produced the Pro Bowl Cheerleader team comprised of 26 women selected for their dance ability, appearance, leadership ability and community involvement. This year’s team really shined under the direction of long-time e2k Producers, Maria Giannini and Ron Kellum. Diane Alexander served as the Dance Director and John Brandt handled the logistics and event management. In all, the cheerleaders made over 30 appearances in four days, including visits to children’s hospitals, military bases, and other community events.

Pro Bowl Mascots—e2k veterans, Dan Wilson and Keith Rooks, tried their best to keep ten crazy mascots under control—and of course, they failed. The mascots were the hit of every appearance and kept the sidelines alive with fun and humor.

In addition to the main events described above, the e2k team was actively involved in the NFL Community Blitz events, youth cheerleading and football clinics, and several other free, community events. The Pro Bowl advertising campaign and Pro Bowl Week graphic look was directed by e2k Creative Director, Meghan Harris.

Gameday Spectacular from Pro Bowl to Super Bowl

This year’s Pro Bowl, the first in Hawaii held on the Sunday prior to the Super Bowl, created a new paradigm in NFL game entertainment. The pregame show took on the appearance of an Opening Ceremonies with a spectacular stage surrounding a 25 ft. replica of the new Pro Bowl Trophy. The oval opening in the trophy was filled with a high-resolution LED screen that was used to augment on-field activities. E2k worked closely with NFL Game Presentation guru, Sammy Choi, to develop an innovative presentation format utilizing two announcers, providing a real-time, behind the scenes commentary of the event.

The main show featured a five-minute performance by the Goo Goo Dolls. The opening segment showcased the beauty of hula, Hawaiian scenery and symbolic elements from the 32 teams celebrating the close of another great season. The finale turned the focus on the upcoming Super Bowl with moving bleachers filled with Packers and Steelers fans, video footage of the two conference championship teams.

On the final chorus, giant banners depicting the NFL logo and the logos from the Pro Bowl and the Super Bowl flowed down over the fans on the far side of the field, filling the stadium with the imagery of the NFL.

The national anthem featured American Idol, Kris Allen, backed up by the 100-voice Kamehameha School choir. The anthem arrangement and recording was produced by e2k’s Peter Dergee.

Even the in-game entertainment broke the normal football traditions with two corner stages presenting bands, dancers, and roving mcees throughout the game.

The gameday spectacle was produced by Erin Olmstead with a show production team lead by Katie Doherty, Lindsay Rosenberg, Millie Wilson, David Sanchez, Jasmine Hall, Amy Ekema, Lisa Simmons, Kristen Ortega, and Tracey Buchholtz, Thanks to the staff from USA and All-American Cheer and Dance for their invaluable support.

The incredible stage, spanning 120 feet was created by Leaf Sarlya, Johnny Mayne, David Hughes, Eric Anderson, and over 150 military volunteers who dedicated themselves to creating something magical between tours of duty in far-off lands.

E2k team was bolstered by local partners David Booth and Rick Schneider from Events International, media director, Ed Nishioka, and Keeper of Aloha, Lyla Berg.

AFC and NFC Championship Games

E2k production teams were in full motion at the NFC and AFC Championship Games in Chicago and Pittsburgh. For over 20 years e2k has been contracted by the NFL to oversee time schedules, game entertainment production, and the postgame trophy ceremony. The cold weather teams included: Maria Giannini, Laura DeGood and David Sanchez in Chicago; and Peter Dergee, Aaron Feldman, and Raquel Orozco in Pittsburgh.

A Monster Night - Earth, Wind & Fire 40th Anniversary Celebration

E2k produced and directed the 2011 Monster Retailer Awards at the Paris Hotel in conjunction with the CES convention in Las Vegas. The highlight of the event was a historic 40th Anniversary celebration with music legends, Earth, Wind & Fire. The production included a 36 piece orchestra led by Hollywood Bowl Orchestra conductor, Thomas Wilkens.

Earth, Wind & Fire performed a non-stop 90 minute set with special appearances on stage by original EWF member, Maurice White, percussionist, Sheila E, and the incredible Stevie Wonder. The multi-tiered stage was divided by a 60 foot traveler curtain that enabled the orchestra to move in and out of the show at various times.

Monster and Hewlett Packard joined forces to produce a live, 3D presentation of the concert on a 22 foot video screen in an adjacent room. Guests could watch the concert live and then experience this innovative technology, wearing 3D glasses.

The show was produced by Michael Olmstead, Mike Brady was the Technical Director and Production Manager; Trisha Ricci managed the venue development and front of house logistics; David Gill and Laura DeGood handled the artist coordination and logistics—a massive undertaking on this scale of show.

The main show was followed by an after party, or Monster Jam, that featured Raphael Saadiq, jazz bass player, Marcus Miller; Sheila E; keyboardist, Larry Dunn, all of the EW&F band members and Wonder. The entire cast jammed from one tune to another until 3:00am in the morning—it was a magical experience for the few music lovers who stayed to the end.

United Way Thanksgiving Halftime Show

For the 11^th year, e2k Sports produced the United Way/NFL Thanksgiving Halftime Show to inspire NFL fans across the country to get involved in their communities. This year's show featured singer and songwriter, Kid Rock, who performed his new song and album title track, "Born Free."

Kid Rock has a history of giving back to the community, and the 2010 United Way Thanksgiving Halftime Show, highlighted by Kid Rock's performance, inspired viewers to LIVE UNITED®, United Way's call to the public to get involved in the community by focusing on the building blocks of life: education, income and health. Now in its 37th year, the United Way/NFL partnership connects NFL PLAY 60 with United Way's 2018 goal to get 1.9 million more young people healthy and active.

Designed to tackle childhood obesity, NFL PLAY 60 brings together the NFL's long-standing commitment to health and wellness with partner organizations like United Way. PLAY 60 is also implemented locally, as part of the NFL's in-school, after-school and team-based programs. Since the program was launched in 2007, the NFL has committed more than $200 million to youth health and fitness through programming, grants and media time for public service announcements.

Previous e2k productions on Thanksgiving Day have featured: Mariah Carey, John Fogerty, Bon Jovi, Mary J. Blige, John Mellencamp, Enrique Iglesias, Boyz II Men, and the Goo Goo Dolls. Over 1,000 performers including members of the National Guard and their families took part in this year's show.

This year's show was produced and directed by Erin Olmstead. Joining Erin in Detroit were Technical Director, Mike Brady; Music Director, Peter Dergee; Choreographer, Lindsay Rosenberg; Stage Manager, Leaf Sarlya, and Production Coordinators, David Sanchez, Jasmine Harris, Shannon Ellis, Katie Doherty, and Amy Ekema. Thanks to Tracy Holmes and our friends at the United Way and the NFL for their continued support on this project.

2010 Pachamama Annual Fundraising Luncheon

E2k/Events for Change once again produced the annual Pachamama Alliance fundraising luncheon, attended by 1,400 dedicated supporters at Fort Mason. This year’s event, the largest ever, featured an appearance by New York Times bestselling author and Pachamama Alliance co-founder, John Perkins (Diary of An Economic Hitman, Hoodwinked etc.). Neal Rogin and Mary Chase created a beautiful new video, telling the story of The Pachamama Alliance from the first encounter with the Achuar people of Ecuador to the present organization with multiple global initiatives.

Co-founders, Lynne and Bill Twist, outlined the work that the organization is doing in Ecuador through their Jungle Journeys program, The New York Times article Amazon Awakening, the support of the Kapawai eco lodge, the promotion of the Rights of Nature concept, and the organization of indigenous groups to change the oil drilling plans in the region. Jon Symes described the continued expansion of the Awakening the Dreamer Symposium into new countries and new demographics. The new Jungle Mamas program was presented by Narcisa Mashienta, a member of the Shuar community, who is leading this initiative to introduce safer birthing methods for the indigenous women. Finally, Lynne and Bill set the context of their work within the Four Years. Go campaign that provides a sense of urgency to the work being done by people around the world.

e2k Technical Director, Mike Brady, took the attendees on an audio journey to the rain forest with his multi-track, surround-sound experience. David Gill coordinated the décor and food & beverage aspects of the event. Trisha Ricci managed the venue relations and directed the graphic and video elements of the presentation. Meghan Harris created beautiful new theme banners and screen graphics. E2k worked with our Washington-based partners, Chris Wayne & Associates and Minassian Media to bring this historic event to life.

Over 215,000 people from across the country made the journey to Washington to be a part of this unprecedented event. Originally seen as a response to the Glenn Beck Rally in August, the Rally to Restore Sanity became a lightning rod for millions of Americans who are tired of the irrational name-calling, and bi-partisan bickering that dominates the television news and the Congressional debates. As Stewart said on stage: "If we amplify everything, we hear nothing."

The Rally combined comedy, music, and politics, was televised, live, on Comedy Central from 12:00pm-3:00pm, commercial free. The program was also webcast on comedycentral.com. In addition, over 400 accredited media, including all the major networks, covered the event. "We began producing an event for 30,000 people with a taped TV show. One month later, we were producing an event for 200,000 people, televised live." The e2k team was responsible for technical production, broadcast interface, staging, talent management, volunteer coordination, and pre-show direction.

e2k Technical Director, Mike Brady, and Production Manager, Danny Huebsch led a team of over 120 technical staff and crew to build a massive venue with twelve jumbotron screens, ten audio delay towers, satellite dishes, and complex technical logistics connecting the broadcast to the live event and media outlets. Shannon Ellis led the talent management team, working closely with the talent coordinators from both Daily Show and the Colbert Report. She was joined on site by Peter Dergee, and Jeannine Sabo. Maria Giannini was one of three stage managers, keeping the non-stop production moving. Trisha Ricci oversaw the recruitment and coordination of over 700 volunteers serving a guides, greening assistants, parking attendants, etc. "The format and scope of the event required expertise from many different arenas," Olmstead explained. "You had one team that works in a controlled TV studio environment, working with the best DC political event and communications people, working with the team that produces large-scale, live entertainment events-it took a village." In the end, the results spoke for themselves as the massive crowd cheered, laughed, danced, did the wave, and displayed their crazy costumes and signs. "Looking back from the director's platform, there were people as far as I could see-it really gave you goosebumps."

In addition to the DC Rally, at least 50 self-organized events sprang up around the country with people watching the show and adding their own local entertainment and speeches. It is a sign of these strange times we live in where many issues have become so inflammatory that they can only be addressed through humor. Only the court jester now speaks with impunity.

WEAVING MOVEMENTS TOGETHER - Dolores Huerta 80th Birthday Celebration

On August 13th, Events for Change produced the Weaving Movements Together benefit concert, celebrating the 80th birthday of civil rights icon, Dolores Huerta. Held at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, presented a powerful blend of music and short speeches highlighting different social movements.

The four hour show featured musical performances by Carlos Santana, Rage Against the Machine singer/songwriter, Zach de la Rocha with his new band, One Day As A Lion; Mexican singer, Lila Downs, the Pete Escovedo Band, Culture Clash, Rick Chavez and Kaylah Marin. Between sets key movements—environmental, peace, women’s, LGBTQ, labor and immigration—were represented by Danny Glover, Martin Sheen, Benjamin Bratt, Alfre Woodard, Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Jodie Evans from Code Pink, Nick Chavez of QVC Channel fame; LA Supervisor, Gloria Molina; AFL-CIO head, Elena Maria Dorazo, and Edward James Olmos.
In addition to the live event in Los Angeles, fifteen other events were held around the country, each receiving a web feed of the concert and some sending video back to LA for insertion on the large screens. The event was covered by a large contingent of English and Spanish-speaking media.

Following enthusiastic renditions of “Happy Birthday” sung by Mayor Villaraigosa in Spanish and all of the performers and the audience in English, Santana performed a beautiful set with vocalist Andy Vargas and the 17 piece Escovedo band. The set included a beautiful rendition of “Black Magic Woman” with Lila Downs providing the vocals, the classic, “Oye Como Va,” and a spirited rendition of the Escovedo hit, “Whatcha Gonna Do?”

e2k President, Michael Olmstead, began working with Delores, the Dolores Huerta Foundation team, and media consultant, Kit Bricca, in October to design and develop the evening’s program. Dolores wanted to create event that brought all of the movements together and the weaving concept provided a perfect metaphor with a strong latin/indigenous feeling. In fact, prior to the event, a pre-show festival in the outer concourse featured weavers demonstrating their craft for the attendees.

e2k Senior Producer, Erin Olmstead, managed the artists and speakers along with an outstanding on-site team of stage managers, including Ron Kellum, Lindsey Rosenberg, David Sanchez, Sabrina Chaudhry, Allison Hahn, Gina Cantrell, Kristin Egusa, Sandra Enriquez, Dalila Muro. The pre-show festival and VIP reception were coordinated by e2k producers, David Gill and Trisha Ricci. Associate Producer, Dan Wilson, called the show; and Creative Director, Meghan Harris designed the graphics and ran the screen graphics for the event. E2k Technical Director, Mike Brady coordinated the production requirements for four bands with tight set changes, a live webcast, internet feeds from remote sites.

e2k and Events for Change was proud to be a part of this historic event, recognizing a leader in the struggle for human rights, and providing a rare showcase of key movements coming together and recognizing their common purpose. The message throughout the evening was summarized by the closing video, Four Years. Go! - basically, now is the time to get involved, make changes in your life to help others and promote a sustainable way of life on our planet. On Friday night, we had a chance to do our small part to make a difference in the world.

Internationally recognized for her role in promoting for women, immigrants, workers and the gay community, Dolores Huerta, President of the Dolores Huerta Foundation (www.doloreshuerta.org) and Co-Founder of the United Farm Workers of America, is celebrating her 80^th birthday with an inspiring benefit concert t celebrate the victories of the past, address the challenges of the future, and collectively envision a better world. “Weaving Movements Together,” will be webcast live to over 20 simultaneous parties nationwide, will unite several social movements and help raise funds for the Dolores Huerta Foundation.

E2k events is producing this historic event in cooperation with the Huerta Foundation. Michael Olmstead began working with Dolores Huerta 10 months ago to develop the Weaving concept, incorporating multiple sites around the country. Erin Olmstead is leading the entertainment management team including Ron Kellum, Lindsey Rosenberg, David Sanchez and Sabrina Ellison.

Mike Brady has been back in his rock show mode managing the multiple stage plots and technical complexities of the event.

The event logo, signage and screen graphics were developed by e2k Creative Director, Meghan Harris.

Meet the New Guy: David Gill

e2k is happy to introduce the newest member of the e2k family! David joins e2k from a background in hotels and event management. Originally from the UK, he worked his way through the ranks of management in luxury hotels. This journey led to Weston Park, an exclusive use Stately Home, where as Operations Manager David was able to gain active experience in a broad range of events including The Retreat Day for the 1998 G8 Summit, Music Festivals and other large scale indoor and outdoor events. David then moved to Tanzania, East Africa, initially to manage a Safari Lodge in the Serengeti National Park. His final role was that of Group Operations manager for 6 lodges, a real challenge for logistic and organizational skills. After 6 amazing years in Africa, David took an 18 month project in Dubai before coming to California. He has worked most recently on the 21st annual Professional BusinessWomen of California conference as speaker liaison, as well as coordinating the food and beverage .

On May 11^th, e2k produced the 21^st Annual Conference of the Professional BusinessWomen of California. Over 3,000 of the Bay Area’s leading business women gathered for a day of learning, connecting, and inspiration. Keynote speakers included Actor, Film Producer, and Writer Geena Davis; Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author Sheryl WuDunn; Health Expert and host of VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club, Dr. Ian Smith; Oracle President Safra Catz; San Francisco’s First Lady Jennifer Siebel Newsom and U.S. Congresswoman Jackie Speier. The conference also featured a performance by the lead of Wicked, Felicia Ricci, an interactive exercise with Drum Café, ten seminars and workshops, a Young Women’s Summit with 300 high school girls, a Senior Executive Forum, and an expo hall filled with over 100 exhibitors, celebrity chef demonstrations, fitness classes and more.

IT’S A WRAP!

E2k recently produced the “wrap party” for Pixar Animation to celebrate the completion of the new Toy Story 3 Movie that will be released in theaters on June 13^th. The event involved a premiere showing of the finished film to over 2,400 Pixar employees who had worked for four years to bring this vision to life. As you can imagine, the credit roll was an exciting moment for many of the audience members.

In order to provide the full audio/visual experience, e2k sound engineers Mike Brady and Dennis Leonard (also an engineer at the Lucas Ranch post-production facility) worked closely with the Pixar team and Meyer Sound, bringing in all new sound and video equipment to create a state-of-the-art surround-sound experience in the 79-year-old Paramount Theater in Oakland.

From the Paramount, the guests were bused to the Craneway Pavilion at Port Richmond for a spectacular party that recreated many of the scenes and provided four hours of non-stop entertainment, interactive activities, and delectable food provided by Taste Catering. Thanks to Suzana Munoz and the Taste team for their outstanding performance. Lighting for the event was designed by Mickey Fimbres at Imact Lighting, and the sound was produced by Sound on Stage from the new movie. The event featured some innovative video elements developed by Anton Goss and Consortium Studios in Hollywood. Consortium previously created the magnificent set for our Pangea Day production. In all, over 450 staff, crew and performers worked on the two events. Event producer, Trisha Ricci and Technical Director, Mike Brady did a wonderful job managing the complex logistics and working hand-in-hand with the Pixar team to bring their creative vision to life in a live setting.

Castellija School Symposium

On April 17th, e2k produced an exciting program for the prestigious Castellija School for girls in Palo Alto.
The event explored the evolution of information with media mogul, Rupert Murdoch; Netscape and Ning founder, Marc Andreessen; the former Vanity Fair and The New Yorker editor and the creator of the Daily Beast web magazine, Tina Brown; and the anchor of CNN's AC 360, 60 Minutes host, Lesley Stahl; and reporter for 60 Minutes and New York Times bestselling author of Dispatches from the Edge, Anderson Cooper. The high-profile speakers shared their inspiring stories as pioneers in both traditional and new on-line media.

The event, held at the Google campus in Mt. View, was directed by Lorie Murphy. Mike Brady served as Technical Director, Erin Olmstead handled stage management and speaker coordination. David Gil provided production support. Meghan Harris produced custom screen graphics that highlighted the theme of each speaker. Steve Whiting created an opening video for the show.

2010 State of the Planet Conference

Events for Change is working with Chris Wayne & Associates, Futureview, Inc., Mediatec, and the Earth Institute at Columbia University and the Economist Magazine to produce the State of the Planet 2010. Centered at Columbia University in New York the conversation will bring in live feeds from concurrent events in Beijing, New Delhi, Nairobi and London. We will also be including live presentations from Prince Albert II from Monaco and Mexican President, Felipe Calderon Hinojosa. United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon will address the participants around the world from New York.

The State of the Planet conference is a project of the Earth Institute, founded by Jeffery Sachs at Columbia University. The all-day event (8:30am-5:30pm) will focus on four main content areas: CLIMATE CHANGE - What Would It Take to Complete the Climate Deal? (New York, Beijing, New Delhi and Monaco), POVERTY - How Do We Achieve the Millennium Development Goals? (New York and Nairobi), ECONOMIC RECOVERY - What Does a Green Recovery Look Like? (New York and London) and INTERNATIONAL SYSTEMS - How Can an International System Be Built to Deal With Transnational Issues?

Michael Olmstead is directing the event, developing the master timelines and coordinating the remote sites’ live participation. Events for Change Technical Director, Mike Brady is managing the complex New York technical production.

Cyber Shockwave in Washington DC

Events for Change President, Michael Olmstead, directed an exciting simulation event in Washington D.C. called Cyber Shockwave. Hosted by Wolf Blitzer, a condensed version of the event will air on CNN this Saturday and Sunday at 8:00pm Pacific Standard Time (check your local listings for broadcast times)

A project of the Bipartison Policy Center (http://bipartisanpolicy.org/events/cyber2010), the event was produced by Chris Wayne and Associates. The simulation featured dramatized Global News Network video reports, graphic animations and innovative video display created by Futureview, Inc. under the direction of David Hanrahan. All of these elements were carefully integrated into the video enhanced “war room” to create a simulated cyber terrorism attack on the United States.

Events for Change Associate Producer, Danny Huebsch, served as Technical Director for the event and created a beautiful set using scenic materials produced from re-cycled product created by our new joint venture sustainable printing company.

A distinguished panel or “cabinet,” played the role of the National Security Council preparing a real-time briefing to the President of the United States. The cabinet included recent Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff as the faux National Security Advisor, former Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte as Secretary of State, and retired Sen. J. Bennett Johnston as secretary of energy among others. The event presented the scenario of a March Madness smartphone application that spreads a virus through users’ contact lists until the nation’s cellular networks are overloaded and shut down. This development, in turn, overloads the land line phone system, the Internet and finally, the power grid. As new updated reports come into the panel, they debate the implications to national defense, financial institutions, domestic violence, health care, transportation information privacy and public confidence. The consensus take-away from the exercise was that we are not adequately prepared to deal with this all-to-real possibility. Just another thing to stay up late worrying about—or something else to act on and change. The widespread exposure of this event is certainly a step in that direction.

2010 State of the Planet Conference

On March 25th Events for Change is working with Executive Producer, Chis Wayne & Associates, and Futureview, Inc. to produce the bi-annual State of the Planet conference. Hosted in New york at Columbia University, the international communities of Beijing, New Delhi, Nairobi, London, Monaco will gather via Satellite to explore such inter related issues as Climate Change, Poverty and Financial Crisis. The conference is made possible through a partnership of The Earth Institute (earth.columbia.edu), Ericsson (ericsson.com) and The Economist (economist.com).

The event will take place from 8:30am to 5:30pm EST (UTC-8). Participants include: Prince Albert II, Jeff Immelt, Riz Khan, Jane Lubchenko (NOAA), HRH Princess Maxima (The Netherlands), John Rockstorm, Jeffrey Sachs and Hans Vestberg. Ambers Hawaii Blog - Day 1

Aloha Niner Fans! Well, today is my first day in Hawaii for the NFL Pro Bowl Youth Clinics and it is also my first time to Hawaii. Ever since I arrived, I have been greeted with amazing Hawaiian hospitality. The NFL Pro Bowl Youth Clinic program was designed to inspire kids to believe in themselves and their abilities. A group of several cheerleaders and players from around the NFL will be touring several of the Hawaiian islands over the next week. We flew into Honolulu yesterday and went to Kona today (very early!) for a day of school visits and youth clinics. I soon realized that not only did the setting of Hawaii leave me speechless but our very first school visit was unforgettable. We visited a cultural school where they learn and embrace the cultural traditions of Hawaii. When we entered the school they greeted us with a song and welcomed us. Then, we each spoke about the challenges that we overcame to bring us to where we are today. At the end of the visit, the students did a formal "mahalo" (or thank you) chant and presented us with gifts.

As soon as we left the school, we were on our way to another school to teach youth clinics. To begin the clinics, we introduced ourselves (I received my first Hawaiian flower lei!) and began teaching them several dances and cheers. This was my first clinic but the girls were great listeners and learned the material so quickly. After teaching them a few cheers and signing autographs it was time to leave...but my day wasn't over yet!

We quickly left the school and headed to the airport to fly to Kauai, one of the most beautiful of the Hawaiian islands. Tomorrow will be another early morning with a school visit to a high school in Kauai.

Sprite Step Off in San Francisco

e2k had the pleasure to work with Sprite & Coca-Cola on the Sprite Step Off in San Francisco. It was proven to be an overwhelming success for the Bay Area! The week start on Thursday, February 4th - 6th with appearances for the Sprite Promotional Step Team on the San Jose State and Stanford campuses, Pier 39 and Boys & Girls Clubs in the Bay Area. Saturday the team visited the Moldaw-Zafaroni Clubhouse in East Palo Alto, CA for the Service Challenge. More than 100 kids from this local Boys & Girls Club were excited to greet the steppers as they strolled into the gymnasium. The kids had a great time with the step dance lessons and performing for their peers.

Saturday afternoon concluded with the Step Off competition at The Warfield Theater in San Francisco. The event was held in conjunction with the D. Phillip McGee Memorial Step Show, which featured several exhibition step teams as part of the event. The judging panel included several namely participants, such as Manny Lawson and Marcus Hudson of the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Sparks Head Coach and NBA Legend Michael Cooper and Nikki Parker of TMZ. Hip Hop artists B.o.B and Kid Cudi took the stage that night before a crowd of nearly 2,500 screaming fans.

NFL Championship Games

e2k worked closely with the NFL, CBS and FOX, and host-team officials to coordinate the pregame and postgame ceremonies for the AFC and NFC Championship games on January 24th, 2010 in New Orleans and Indianapolis. This year’s ceremonies featured national anthem performances by Kris Allen, the winner of last year’s American Idol, and Jordin Sparks, American Idol 6th season winner. With both home teams winning, the e2k staff was on the field at the end of the game in the inevitable state of controlled chaos. In five minutes, over fifty staff and crew are mobilized to put a stage, police barricades, camera platforms, confetti cannons and trophy tables in place. At the same time the e2k and NFL staff are moving the owners, head coach, honorary captain, Fox talent and key players to the stage to make the trophy presentation when the network comes back to 40 million people. This is all happening in the midst of a wild celebration in front of 70,000 people—quite a scene. In New Orleans the situation was particularly precarious in that we did not know where the celebration would be until the last play of the game. Shannon Ellis was managing a production team in the Vikings locker room while Michael Olmstead and Ian Mayne were in the tunnel getting ready for a Saints victory. Peter Dergee, Maria Giannini and Tina Campos managed the Indianapolis events.

As our vision statement expresses, e2k believes in the power of events, but more specifically, the power of sports to bring people together and “enhance a sense of community. . .” This phenomenon was never realized more vividly that in New Orleans. The Saints had never hosted an NFC Championship game and they are one of the few teams that has never been to a Super Bowl. After years of frustration, this football team had the opportunity to uplift an entire city that had suffered so much in the aftermath of Katrina. Following the game, the streets were alive with people from all walks of life singing, dancing and partying as only New Orleans can—it was truly a spontaneous Mardi Gras! It was a powerful reminder of the true purpose of the work that we do.

Monstrous Night in Vegas

Monster CES Awards with John Legend and Stevie Wonder

E2k was in Vegas for the annual CES Convention, producing an exciting show for Monster Cable. The show culminated with a concert by six-time Grammy-award winner, John Legend, and a surprise guest appearance by Stevie Wonder. Over 4,000 invited guests filled the Paris Hotel Ballroom to hear Legend performed hits from his new Evolver album like This Time as well as earlier hits such as If You’re Out There and Green Light. He closed with a medley of Ordinary People into Wonder’s My Cherie Amour.

This was the seventh CES concert that e2k has produced for Monster and the company founder, Noel Lee. Previous shows featured Earth, Wind and Fire; Santana; Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart, George Benson and Al Jarreau; and Mary J. Blige. In recent years the Monster line has diversified to include high-quality headphones and in-ear speakers that support the company vision that Sound Really Matters (because the music really matters).

Observations from Copenhagen—Michael Olmstead

The “movement” was alive in Copenhagen. Arriving in Copenhagen one could not help be struck by the message of change everywhere. Every sign in the airport, every billboard, the stickers on C02 neutral taxis, posters related to every aspect of the environmental and social justice movement—movies, concerts, rallies, meetings, symposiums-- the sculptures throughout the City— painted globes, giant balloons depicting the volume of a ton of carbon, the powerful image of a thin man carrying a obese figure representing the developed world on his shoulders—a certificate indicating the carbon write-off related to your stay, and bikes available for use at the hotel. My favorite signs each showed a world leader with the date 2020 and the same quote: “I’m sorry! We could have stopped climate change and we didn’t.” Every square and park was jammed with young people, some drumming, others holding teach-ins, some just waiting for the next protest or meeting. People from every part of the world are on the streets, including indigenous people in their traditional attire. It is an Olympics or Super Bowl of environmental activism.

Of course, much of the promotion was related to the COP15, however, there was also ample evidence of Denmark’s higher level of awareness and commitment. First, there are bicycles everywhere—women in fancy dresses and men in suits riding out to dinner in 30 degree weather. There are wide bike lanes on every street. Compared to any other major city I have been in, car traffic was minimal and I don’t recall seeing one SUV. Most bathrooms do not have paper towels. People walking and riding bikes all wait for lights—it is the opposite of New York.

Of course, the energy and total attention to climate urgency expressed on the street only magnified the level of pessimism and frustration about what was or was not transpiring at the main event. The gaps between the NGO’s, youth and concerned citizens and the politicians was never more vivid. The gap between the science and the political will was never more glaring. And unfortunately, no group and event happening outside the Bella Center will even scratch the surface of the problem or counter the lack of aggressive action by the governments of the US and China. And so, as is often the case for those of us striding forward in a state of blessed unrest, I felt simultaneous hope and despair. It takes a lot of faith to believe in the collective power of all the committed people working in their own spheres.

During my brief stay I had a chance to meet with many dedicated people who are all working in their own way to turn the tide and create a world that works for everyone. The Klimaforum People’s Climate Summit was alive with exhibits, presentations, and non-stop dialogue between people from around the world. I was particularly struck by the large number of young people who are mobilized in a way that I have not seen since the Vietnam era.

I was honored to represent the Pachamama Alliance and the State of the World Forum in a variety of meetings and a televised session on organizational collaboration. It was exciting to unveil the new Pachamama-inspired FourYears.Go campaign with a short, but powerful video. This will be a global media campaign that any organization can use to create a heightened sense of urgency and commitment among their existing or potential members. The campaign is being developed in cooperation with the Pachamama Alliance by the globally recognized ad agency, Weiden + Kennedy. W+K is probably most famous for the creation of Nike’s Just Do It campaign and the Lance Armstrong Livestrong program.
